Handset firm talks to high street giants in move away from white-label approach.
According the Mobile magazine, HTC is in discussions with Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and JAG, as it prepares to boost its marketing budget by 30 per cent.It marks a flexing of the muscles for the Taiwanese vendor, which has previously been regarded as a white label manufacturer for operator-branded Windows smartphones.
However, the success of its HTC Touch Diamond in recent months has indicated a shift in approach.
Dave Catt, HTC's acting country manager for UK and Ireland, said: ‘We’ve been engaging with Carphone, Phones 4u and JAG over selling directly through them. As with all manufacturers, we need to keep our options open as to how we bring our products to the market.’
HTC is expected to focus on the Android platform in 2009, capitalising on being the first vendor into the space with the G1.
