HTC sales drop 44 per cent in February

Handset manufacturer reports three-year low sales figures.

HTC has endured a torrid February, after seeing its sales plummet 44 per cent to $380.4 million from one year ago, representing the firm’s lowest sales figures in three years, CNET has reported.

The company is now pinning its hopes on the new One flagship smartphone, which is set to hit shelves towards the end of March, to lift its dwindling sales.

While the first quarter often proves to be a typically a tough time for handset vendors, this is usually offset by a strong Q4. However, this is of little consolation to HTC, who also performed poorly during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Time will surely tell whether or not the launch of the HTC One smartphone will indeed provide a much-needed boost for the firm’s sales figures. The manufacturer has received critical praise for its design, but it will be competing in the market alongside the new Samsung Galaxy S4 handset, which is expected to be announced next week.
