David Hockney is using Apple's device as part of a digital painting experiment.
The 72 year-old artist told the Radio Times (via the BBC) how he drew a picture on his iPhone in bed one morning and emailed it to 12 people, impressed by the fact that the image had never been photographed or printed.
Hockney is also using digital methods to create more complex landscapes, piecing multiple canvasses together on a computer.
Hockney is the subject of a BBC documentary airing next week detailing his return to Yorkshire after 30 years in California.
