Social meets GPS meets business networking meets... everything!
iPhone developer Never Alone Anymore has launched a new social networking app called HiMyTribe, which claims to create a "real-time" location-based social network.
It lets users find fellow HiMyTribe members in their local area, while also creating 'tribes' of their regular contacts. There are also profiling elements to help make new contacts, as well as messaging and status update features.
The app divides people into 130 different business categories - everything from financial services and healthcare to technology and telecommunications (something tells us the latter two will be particularly popular in its early days).
HiMyTribe is free "initially", although people can only have up to 20 members of their tribe. Presumably the company will charge later for people who want to expand their networks.
"By leveraging the power of mobile social computing and the iPhone, we wanted to create a truly useful application that achieves what no other location based people finder application has done before," says NAA CEO Jean-Marc Orselli.

As ever, with new mobile entrants to the social networking market, the main challenge to HiMyTribe will be if existing business networks like LinkedIn add these kind of location-based features to their own mobile apps in the near future.
