The US MVNO Helio has launched an over-the-air music download service.
Helio Music is the newest addition to the carrier’s 3G services after others such as its MySpace collaboration and GPS-enabled Google Maps.Helio Music features tracks from the four majors and allows members to browse artist bios and images, preview songs, view community recommendations, then download tracks over-the-air via 3G. Features include pervasive search, recommendations, artist alerts, ‘gift & beg’ downloads and dual delivery
The service will be available first on Drift, Helio's premium device, but is slated to be available for all future Helio devices. Tracks can be downloaded over-the-air for $1.99 per song or directly to the PC for $0.99 per song. Helio Music is included with Helio all-in memberships; data charges apply for a la carte memberships.
Helio is still attempting to make an impression in the merciless US MVNO market. The company expects to pass 100,000 post-paid subscribers by early next quarter, 10 months after its hard launch. It also ARPU is an above average $100 a month.
