But rate of decline is falling, and smartphone market is still buoyant.
Gartner says sales fell by nine per cent in 1Q2009 and will fall by four per cent by year end. It said retailers' stocks fell by 14 million phones in the latest quarter, compared with a decline of 25 million in the first.
Happily, though, smartphone sales grew 27 per cent year-on-year in the quarter, with Nokia increasing its market share to 45 per cent, boosted by demand for 5800 and N97, even though the latter shipped 500,000 in June, compared to one million by the Apple iPhone 3G S.
Nokia also maintained its over leadership position, even though its market share fell to 36.8 per cent from 39.5 per cent.
