303 million mobile devices shipped in Q3, according to Strategy Analytics.
The figure is down a little on the previous quarter, and marks the industry’s weakest growth rate since 2002. Sales were up five per cent year on year.In the past typical growth rates have been nearer 20 per cent. It’s alarming because Q3 is normally a strong quarter. Strategy Analytics said a slowdown in emerging markets was mostly to blame for the decline.
Apple and Samsung performed best, with annual growth rates of 516 per cent and 22 per cent respectively. Sales of Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG handsets fell.
Nokia remained top with a nearly 40 per cent share.
