Hands makes a fist of video

Hands-On will launch its Yatta user-gen video service with SFR in France this month.

The publisher has big targets for the service, which will roll out across Europe and EMEA during the rest of 2007. Yatta-Video is a user-gen ‘vending’ service that encourages users to make and upload videos, for which they receive ten per cent of revenues.

It’s similar to existing launches such as SeeMeTV and Peekaboo. The name Yatta is a translation of the Japanese phrase ‘I did it!’.

Hands-On has built a formidable back-end behind the product, which ensures robust moderation, billing, DRM and delivery capabilities. Service elements include a director ‘hall of fame’, alerts when a clip enters the top ten, search, user ratings and more. Hands-On is planning to support user-generated wallpapers and ringtones in phase two of the roll-out.

Eric Hobson, GM of Hands-On EMEA, said: “Yatta-Video is not something we undertook lightly. We removed usability niggles seen in other products, added new features and  built in all the reliability and quality from our platform experience… UGC is about local flavour and passion, so we’ll make sure our team includes dedicated market resource to work through all the nuances of the service.”
