Handmark launches social app subsidiary, OneLouder

First releases include TweetCaster for Twitter and FriendCaster for Facebook.

Handmark announced last week that it would open a wholly-owned unit to focus on socially powered apps, with Evan Conway, Handmark’s executive vice president of marketing and product development, named president of the new company.

Now the subsidiary has been officially named OneLouder (thank you, Nigel Tuffnel) and spun off as an independent entity.

The new company will assume ownership of TweetCaster and FriendCaster – with 3m users – and the ad services group. It's also working on bringing new products through.

Expected launches in the coming weeks include TweetCaster for BlackBerry, iPad, Symbian and bada, as well as FriendCaster 2.0 for iPad, FriendCaster Chat for Android, and a newly designed FriendCaster for Android tablets.

"We’ve seen firsthand the explosive growth at the intersection of social networking and mobile,” said Paul Reddick, CEO of Handmark.

"The subsidiary is in recognition of the team’s innovative spirit and its firm grasp of what matters to the increasing number of people who use mobile devices to connect with their social world."
