GSMA to launch Mobile Asia Expo 2012

Shanghai event will focus on rapid-growing Chinese and surrounding Asian mobile markets.

Operator trade body GSMA has announced the new event to address the increasing number of players in the Asian mobile market.

It hopes to reel in 20,000 delegates to for the expo, which will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from June 20th-22nd.

GSMA claims the Mobile Asia Expo will build on the success of the GSMA's previous Mobile Asia Congress events. One of which is being held with industry leaders in Hong Kong from November 16th-17th.

John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, said: "The Mobile Asia Expo represents the evolution of our Asia-based mobile industry event and reflects the continued strong influence of the Asian mobile community on the global stage.

"The mobile industry continues to develop at an unprecedented pace, and nowhere is this more evident than in China, which is experiencing tremendous growth and is the world's largest mobile market."

Research firm Wireless Intelligence claims China accounts for 16 per cent of all mobile connections globally, while Asia Pacific has received 2.9 billion mobile connections.
