Gravity releases MusicID discovery app

iPhone app will take on the likes of Shazam and SoundHound

Gracenote subsidiary Gravity Mobile has its MusicID iPhone app in 90 countries, supporting the Japanese, French, German and Spanish languages.

Meanwhile, the company says its US-only app, MusicID with Lyrics, is now the leading paid music discovery & lyrics app in the US iTunes App Store (can anyone confirm this, US readers?).

MusicID with Lyrics is built around Gracenote's Global Media Database, with users able to obtain info by searching artist or track name, entering a line from the lyrics, or by holding their iPhone up to music playing nearby.

The international launch of MusicID signals more competition in the music recognition app space, which is undoubtedly bossed by UK-based Shazam - the company has 50 million users of its iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Nokia, iPad and Windows Phone apps.
