GQ's first iPad issue sells... 365 copies

Men of the Year not so hot for tablet readers.

Is the iPad the saviour for the print magazine industry? Not yet, it seems.

Publisher Conde Nast released GQ's December 2009 Men of the Year issue as an iPad app last month, but has just revealed that it has only sold 365 downloads on the App Store.

However, publisher Pete Hunsinger isn't downcast, telling media site MinOnline that the company is committed to Apple's tablet despite the slow start.

"This costs us nothing extra: no printing or postage. Everything is profit, and I look forward to the time when iPad issue sales become a major component to our circulation."

In fairness, selling a four-month-old issue was never likely to spur monster sales: once GQ starts releasing new issues as iPad apps, downloads will surely pick up.
