Social location app tapping into Apple Store footfall.
Social location app Gowalla has kicked off an innovative virtual items promotional campaign with accessories firm Incase.
It's based around users of the Gowalla app checking in at Apple Stores, where they can collect badges based on various Incase products - bags, backpacks and iPhone sleeves for example.
"There will be six Incase-branded virtual items in all: Collect all six, and you’ll receive the Incase Pin of Glory!" blogs Gowalla's Jonathan Carroll - if you haven't used Gowalla, that's an achievement badge.
What's more, users checking in will have a chance to win a real Incase Slider cover for iPhone, so it's not just virtual rewards.
It's the latest example of how these kinds of applications can team up with brands and venues to run contests and marketing promotions. Which, in time, could be one of the main sources of revenues for apps like Gowalla.

Campaigns like this will also help Gowalla compete against rivals like Foursquare, which has just opened up its app to cities and towns beyond its original list.
