Third-generation version of social location app throws down its walls.
Social location service Gowalla has launched the third generation of its app, which it says is the most significant update to the service it has ever released.
The big news: a combined activity tab that pulls in check-ins from friends not just on Gowalla, but on Foursquare and Facebook Places too.
"One of the things we hear often from our community is how much they love the Gowalla experience—which is certainly evidenced by our recent announcement with Disney Parks—but they want to keep up with their friends on Foursquare and Facebook Places as well," explains the company in a blog post.
"We decided that this was a problem we could solve."
The new version of Gowalla also lets users bookmark their favourite locations, and leave notes for specific friends at individual spots, which they will receive the next time they check in there.

Initially, Gowalla 3 is available for iPhone, but the new features will soon be added to the Android, iPad and BlackBerry versions of the service too.
