Plastic Beach coming to life through cameraphones.
Cartoon band Gorillaz already have an augmented reality iPhone app, but it's getting a meaty update in time for their gigs next week at The O2 venue in London.
Fans with the app will be able to point their iPhones at special markers dotted around the venue to see life-size 3D models of Gorillaz characters hovering in front of them.
There will also be submarines, pirate ships and even the Plastic Beach locale that formed the concept of the band's latest album.
The app will also deliver pseudo-backstage footage of Murdoc and co in the run-up to the start of the gig.
Operator O2 commissioned the app, which was made by [PIAS] Media.
"Our collaboration with Gorillaz has gone way beyond how an artist and brand would normally work together," says Jasmine Skee, O2's music sponsorship boss.
"This app is a great example of how we can offer artists the latest technology to push the boundaries of the live music experience and engage even more with fans visiting their shows."
