Did you know? Did you know? Did you know?
Google CEO Eric Schmidt says that 'autonomous search' will be the next big evolution for search technology, with smartphones playing a key role.
Schmidt was talking in a keynote speech at the IFA event in Germany, during which he revealed that Google's mobile search traffic grew by 50% in the first half of 2010.
Search traffic from Android phones specifically tripled in the same period.
However, it was autonomous search that appeared to be most exciting Schmidt when looking ahead to Google's next steps.
"Ultimately, search is not just the web but literally all of your information - your email, the things you care about, with your permission - this is personal search, for you and only for you," he said.

"The next step of search is doing this automatically. When I walk down the street, I want my smartphone to be doing searches constantly - ‘did you know?’, ‘did you know?’, ‘did you know?’, ‘did you know?’"
Schmidt said that this kind of technology will be the next big development for search engines.
"This notion of autonomous search - to tell me things I didn’t know but am probably interested in, is the next great stage - in my view - of search."
