Google may lose rights to Nexus One name

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office says Integra Telecom owns it.

The USPTO denied Google's application for the Nexus One trademark although the decision is not final and is pending further evidence from Google.

"Registration of the applied-for mark is refused because of a likelihood of confusion with the mark in U.S. Registration No. 3554195," said the filing.

Apparently the word Nexus is registered to Integra Telecom, an operator active in 11 Western states. It said it hopes to work the matter out with Google.

The Nexus One runs Android, and Google sells it exclusively from its Web site. The phone was initially designed for T-Mobile's network, but is now on AT&T's network, and has just been confirmed for Sprint.
