Google launches iPhone app

Toolbar for iPhone's Safari browser gives users quick access to Google products.

Google's Seach, Gmail, Reader and Calendar services have been integrated into an app that can be downloaded for free into the iPhone web browser's toolbar.

All the services were already accessible by iPhone users, but the new Ajax-based tool now means they don't have to navigate to each separately.

Google already makes similar toolbars for desktop web browsers - tweaking the service for iPhone was a no-brainer as its Safari browser is pretty much the same as the software shipped with Apple's computers.

Google software engineer Steve Kanefsky said on the blog: "I started thinking about how to use AJAX technology to improve Google on the iPhone. I set out to create an application that would preload my favorite Google products and allow me to switch between them instantly."
