Google will launch its Google Editions e-books store this summer, the company has told a publishing industry event in New York.

The store will let people buy e-books and then read them on various devices, either through dedicated apps or via the mobile web.

The Wall Street Journal reports that publishers are keen on the store, in contrast to their battles in recent times with Google over its online book search technology.

"As a publisher, what I like is that I won't have to think about audiences based on devices," says Oxford University Press' Evan Schnittman.
