Google acquires Wildfire

Pays an estimated $250m for the US firm that specialises in social media integration.

Google wants so badly to be big in social. It's been spooked by the rise of Facebook and the relative failure of Google Plus.

So this is the latest acquisition to address the issue. Wildfire provides software to major brands that helps them link to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn et al.

It has 16,000 customers include 30 top 50 global brands such as Amazon and Sony.

The deal is one to file alongside the swoop for the social messaging and advertising company Meebo in June.
