Google acquires video tech firm

Buys Green Parrot Pictures to improve the quality of YouTube uploads.

The Dublin based target has applied its technology for use in big movies like The Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man.

Now, Google wants to take this tech and use it to finesse some of the jerkier user gen stuff uploaded to YouTube.

Jeremy Doig, Google’s director of video technology, said in a blog: “What if there was a technology that could improve the quality of such videos — sharpening the image, reducing visual noise and rendering a higher-quality, steadier video — all while your video is simply being uploaded to the site?”

“Their technology helps make videos look better while at the same time using less bandwidth and improving playback speed."
