Glu poaches Hands-On boss for new CEO

Niccolo De Masi joins mobile games publisher months after taking the reins at Hands-On.

Glu Mobile has finally appointed a new boss: Niccolo de Masi has joined the company as president and CEO.

He joins from Hands-On Mobile, where he served as president from March 2008 to October 2009, before taking over as CEO just three months before jumping ship to Glu.

Before Hands-On, he was CEO of UK mobile entertainment firm Monstermob Group.

"The Board of Directors of Glu is delighted that Niccolo will be joining us as Glu’s next President and CEO," says Glu's board chairman (and until now acting CEO) Bill Miller.

"We are convinced that he has exactly the right combination of energy, experience and skill to lead the company to a growing and profitable future."

de Masi says he'll relish the challenge of growing Glu's market share in its carrier business while also making the most of iPhone and social networks.

It's quite a challenge. Glu held back on iPhone while its rivals got in early, and has since been playing catch-up.

Meanwhile, where his departure leaves Hands-On remains to be seen. The company recently lost its top licensing deal - Guitar Hero - to Glu, and has been even less in evidence on the App Store.
