Glu Mobile launches Atom Blast Facebook game

Part of the mobile publisher's dive into social gaming.

Glu Mobile has launched a new game, but not on mobile, iPhone or Android. Atom Blast is making its debut online, as a Facebook game.

The game involves setting off explosions to cause chain reactions, earning credits for high scores which can then be spent on 'rewinding' the game to avoid mistakes.

The game also has its own virtual currency, 'G-Coins', which players buy using real money. 9 G-Coins cost $2, rising to 240 for $40.

It's the first game that Glu has launched exclusively for Facebook, aiming for a slice of the success experienced by its former Euro boss Kristian Segerstrale, who left the company to launch social games firm Playfish.

Before leaving the company, former SVP of global publishing Jill Braff told ME that Glu had hired a team to focus on Facebook game development. Atom Blast is the first sign of what that team has been up to.
