Glu Mobile appoints board co-chairman as interim president and CEO

Bill Miller to replace the departing Greg Ballard... for now.

Glu Mobile has announced that Bill Miller, co-chairman of its board of directors, is taking over as interim president and CEO from today.

He replaces Greg Ballard, who announced earlier this year that he would be leaving the company as soon as a successor was found.

The mobile games publisher has been searching since then, but it seems it has decided on appointing Miller as a stopgap measure.

"The need to start planning for 2010 is upon us, and it seemed to us on the board that it was important to put somebody in place who could drive the company through that 2010 planning process and carry it into 2010 if necessary," Miller told ME in an interview shortly after the announcement was made.

Glu says it is continuing the search for a permanent president and CEO, and expects to make an appointment early next year. Miller will continue in his role as co-chairman of the board until then.

Miller's previous roles include co-chairman and CEO at multimedia tool company Avid Corporation, and before that a similar role at data storage firm Quantum Corporation. He is also currently a director at Nvidia, Digimark and Waters Corporation.
