Glu gets the call from Activision

Glu has inked a global deal with Activision to develop and publish an as yet unnamed Call of Duty mobile game.

It is the latest in a string of similar agreements Glu has inked recently with the likes of Codemasters, Sega and Microsoft.

The long-running Call of Duty franchise has appeared in various incarnations on PC and console. Hands-On Mobile previously developed and published Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2 for mobile in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

The new game will be released by Glu later this year. It is not clear yet whether it will tie in directly with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which will be released for console and PC later this year and takes the franchise out of its WW2 setting for the first time.

Greg Ballard, chief executive officer and president at Glu, said: "We’re thrilled to engage in an exclusive partnership with Activision and bring a new Call of Duty title to mobile gamers worldwide. The Call of Duty franchise has brought new meaning and innovation to the first person action category and is a great addition to Glu’s portfolio of award-winning games."

David Anderson, senior director of business development at Activision, said: "Glu’s well-earned reputation for publishing award-winning quality mobile games, and their proven ability to deploy titles globally made them a clear choice as our partner to bring the next Call of Duty to mobile gamers."
