And not all of it goes to Apple.

Strategy Analytics believes the market will slow in 2011, despite a decent 2010.

Nevertheless a four per cent rise will see it crawl towards the $1 trillion revenue milestone.

The 'Worldwide Cellular User Forecasts and 2011 Market Trends' report says subs will pass 6bn this year and that the world will be at 100 per cent penetration in 2014.

It adds that significant new subscription growth opportunities exist for operators in new connected device categories, even though increasingly saturated markets for traditional mobile voice services will result in a slow-down in global growth rates.

“2010 was a good year overall for mobile operators due to the improving macro-economic climate,” said Phil Kendall, author of the report.

“However, we will not see a return to pre-recession growth rates as subscription growth moves to more marginal industry segments and mobile voice, the industry cash cow, reaches its peak.”
