Mobile app store GetJar has passed the half a billion downloads milestone, the company has announced.
It's perhaps no co-incidence that the news was released the day after Apple revealed its own 1.5 billion downloads milestone.
GetJar also says that only 20-30% of its downloads are currently coming from smartphones though, with that percentage even less in emerging markets like India.
The company has revealed details of some of the most popular apps on its site, too. Google Maps has racked up more than five million downloads, while messaging apps Nimbuzz and eBuddy have generated 14 million and 16 million respectively.
17 million GetJar users have downloaded the Opera Mini browser, while 10 million have opted for mobile social networking app mig33. All of these apps are free, it's worth noting.
More stats: GetJar says that more than 50% of its users download new content at least once a week, while Flash apps are increasingly popular, with some generating up to 20,000 downloads a week.
