He will be replaced on an interim basis by Paul Whiteing, currently the watchdog's Director of Policy and Innovation.
George Kidd has resigned from his post as chief executive of UK premium rate telephony watchdog PhonepayPlus, having served for eight years.The body formerly known as Icstis has confirmed that its Director of Policy and Innovation Paul Whiteing will take over the post until a successor is found.
Phonepayplus says the position will be advertised nationally and will be open to external and internal candidates, with a final decision being made by a panel comprising the Chairman of the PhonepayPlus Board, an independent assessor and a representative of UK regulator Ofcom.
Most recently PhonepayPlus's has moved to reassert best practice in mobile content retail and clean up the interactive TV space.
Alistair Graham, Chairman of PhonepayPlus, said "George's achievements at PhonepayPlus during the past eight years have been many and varied. It is with great regret that I accept his resignation - no one has done more to build trust in the fast-moving market for phone-paid services."

Kidd added: "I am immensely proud of the work PhonepayPlus has done to make sure both consumers and businesses receive a fair deal. Together, we have forged a productive new relationship with Ofcom, proactively addressed problems in certain parts of the market and created a new identity that brings us closer to all our stakeholders."
