Gemalto to power Isis NFC payments

Gemalto to power Isis NFC payments

Dutch firm selected by US operator consortium.

Isis is a joint venture between AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless. It will use Gemalto's Allynis Trusted Service Manager (TSM) solution to manage the infrastructure behind its ambitious plan to get US mobile users to pay for low-ticket items using a wallet loaded on their phones.

Of course, this is the latest in a slow build up of resources as multiple players look to boss the contactless payments space.

Google has already launched its wallet in some cities in the US, but it's just on one phone and is mostly skewed towards offers and vouchers.

Isis will go up against this service, embedding the NFC function in the SIM rather than the phone.

"We selected Gemalto for their long-standing relationships with financial institutions and mobile operators, which includes experience in securely provisioning services over the air and issuing sensitive financial information to the consumer," said Ryan Hughes, CMO of Isis.

"Gemalto's dedication to security is unmatched in the industry and will provide the Isis Mobile Commerce Platform with the necessary infrastructure to ensure consumer and merchant confidence in the Isis Mobile Wallet."
