Gameloft reveals net profit for first half of 2009

Sales growth plus stable head-count equals a move into the black for mobile games firm.

Gameloft has published its financial results for the first half of 2009, revealing that it made a net profit of €2.2 million - an improvement on the €0.8 million net loss it posted in the first half of last year.

This year's figure is based on first-half revenues of €60.1 million, up 20% year-on-year. Gameloft's operating income for the period stood at €4.5 million, up 65% on the first half of 2008.

The publisher continues to make hay from iPhone's App Store, with 18 of its 35 games so far having reached the top ten of the paid games chart on Apple's store.

Gameloft is also continuing to build its stockpile of cash, with net cash of €16.9 million at the end of June, and no debt.

This will be useful to defend its position on the App Store from competition - for example, its big Q3 game Gangstar: West Coast Hustle (pictured) will soon be going head-to-head on iPhone with its inspiration, console franchise Grand Theft Auto.
