One game a week for less than a quid.
Mobile games publisher Gameloft has launched its Gameloft Club subscription service for Android, offering a game a week for a recurring 99p payment.
To be specific: users pay £0.99 a week, and every week will be sent a text message inviting them to download a new game. People signing up get two games to start them off as an added incentive.
Gameloft is running the club through its own website, with N.O.V.A. and Starfront Collision included at launch, with 9mm, Block Breaker 3: Unlimited and Silent Ops to come. For now, the club will only be available in the UK.
It is no surprise to see Gameloft experimenting with this kind of idea: the publisher has been running its own sub-portals on operator decks for years, as well as its own service, experimenting with pricing and bundles in both cases.
The Gameloft Club makes for an interesting contrast with the company's fierce rival EA on Android, though. Whereas Gameloft is trying to make money from Google's OS through subscription, EA has just taken its Tetris and Scrabble games free and ad-supported on Android.
