Gameloft first-half revenues up 15 per cent year-on-year

Smartphone and tablets now account for nearly a third of the games publisher's total sales.

Mobile games publisher Gameloft has reported first-half sales of €76.8 million (around $109m) for the first half of 2011, representing a rise of 15% year-on-year.

That includes Q2 sales of €33.6 million ($47.7m) which were up 11% year-on-year, with Gameloft saying that the weakness of the dollar weighed down its figures slightly.

Gameloft says that two factors are currently driving its growth: sales of Java games in emerging markets, and smartphone and tablet game sales elsewhere. In fact, the company's smartphone and tablet revenues were up 55% year-on-year in the first half of 2011, and now account for 30% of the publisher's overall sales.

The company is planning to publish 20 new games for these devices in the second half of the year, while also exploring new markets for its games on social networks and connected TVs.

Gameloft has not announced more detailed financial reports for the first half or second quarter: they will be published on 31 August according to French accounting regulations.
