Axel Technologies unveils intriguing new technology.
Finnish mobile TV firm Axel Technologies has unveiled its new Fuugo product, which will run on netbooks, tablets and smartphones.
It's like a TiVo on steroids for the Web 2.0 generation (sort of), in that it learns users' interests, and then serves them up a stream of shows from broadcast, mobile and online sources. The technology also includes social features, tapping into users' social networks.
Axel Technologies has even coined a new word for the concept: 'Telefusion'. “Social media, online TV and video services have thrown doubt on traditional TV usage,” explains CEO Petri Kalske.
“The challenge, however, is the usability and user experience: how to find the relevant content from the chaos of content sources, applications and devices. We developed Fuugo to simplify the way users find the programs they want without having to think about where they are coming from.”
We imagine the company will have all kinds of fun trying to sell the concept to traditional broadcasters, who'll want to know how the business model works in terms of advertising and/or subscriptions to their content.

Even so, Fuugo is a hugely interesting idea. The company will be showing it off at Mobile World Congress next week, and also recruiting beta testers.
