Axel Technologies talks up its innovative new mobile TV service.
Finnish firm Axel Technologies is focusing initially on the US with its new Fuugo mobile TV service, according to CEO Petri Kalske.
"The most innovative device vendors are US-based – and I don’t just mean Apple," he tells ME. "Dell are reinventing themselves, and HP are doing the same thing, as are Palm and Motorola."
Fuugo is an application that lets users mix'n'match shows from broadcast and mobile TV, as well as online video portals. It was announced just before Mobile World Congress this month.
Kalske says Axel is talking to device makers in North America about launching the service, which is capable of running on smartphones, but also tablets and netbooks.
The service will eventually include Tivo-esque features to learn users' preferences and recommend them shows they might like, while also allowing them to get social recommendations from friends on Twitter and Facebook.

"It’s about making TV social again,” says Kalske. “For us, it’s really a core thing.”
