Locks up London-based developer Assanka.
It was Assanka that made the FT's landmark HTML5 web app with the paper’s in-house product team in June 2011.
This has since become the iconic product for those looking to make an app that is easily ported across multiple platforms and side-steps the walled gardens erected by OEMs - chiefly Apple.
The FT used its released in August 2011 to remove itself from iTunes, and thus keep 100 per cent of all subs revenue. The app has received 1m downloads and helped drive digital subscriptions to beyond 250,000.
An FT memo read: “This acquisition supports our strategy to deliver our world class journalism anywhere, anytime on any device, delivering new digital products and services that engage our busy readers."
Here's another chance to check out the FT infographic published in November.
