Orange France sold nearly 30,000 iPhones in its first five days on sale.
The Apple device was launched on November 29th via 680 Orange storefronts. The operator hopes to sell nearly 100,000 iPhones by the end of the calendar year. Reports suggest 80 per cent of buyers are also signing up for an Orange contract, even though unlocked iPhones are available in France. If the figures are correct, it means the French are buying more iPhones than the Brits. O2 has not released official data, but speculation said 26,500 handsets had been activated in its first two-weeks on the UK market.
That said, O2 has been encouraged by the handset’s ability to attract users from other networks. The incoming CEO of O2, Matthew Key, claims three out of four buyers of the iPhone in the UK will be new O2 customers.
