UGC promotion for Warpgate game gathers pace as first winner is announced.
With 65,000+ apps on iPhone's App Store, developers are having to find canny ways of marketing their games and applications.
Take games firm Freeverse, for example. To build anticipation for its upcoming space-trading game Warpgate, it's running a contest on Twitter to get gamers to name a planet within the game.
The winner has just been announced - they suggested a planet called Hibernicus "inhabited by a bear-like species who make for terrible space pilots".
However, Freeverse has been so pleased with the contest, it's extended it with plans for four more winners to also name their own planets.
Entering the contest involves sending a tweet to Freeverse with the hashtag #warpgate plus the entry text. This means that the game is building a viral buzz, even if #warpgate hasn't yet made it onto Twitter's Trending Topics chart.
