1.1m downloads from Myxer promotion boosted DVD sales by 20%.
US mobile entertainment firm Myxer has hailed the success of its recent promotion for music documentary The Carter with Lil Wayne.
The company offered fans of the rapper free ringtone, wallpaper and video downloads, and says it notched up 1.1 million downloads during the four-week campaign.
Better still for the film's producers, Myxer says its promotion led to a 20% increase in DVD sales, and pushed the film to fifth place in the iTunes Store chart.
"While we were expecting several hundred thousand downloads of the free mobile content in the one month period, we were blown away by the fact that there were 1.1 million downloads in such a short time period," says producer Quincy Jones III.
"It was great to have so many fans of The Carter 'broadcasting' and acting as our 'DVD ambassadors' as their phones rang and we’re thrilled to have worked with Myxer to create such a huge impact on our sales."

Myxer is looking beyond Lil Wayne though (probably sensibly, given that he's currently banged up in jail). It's currently running a similar promotion around the new album and film from Snoop Dogg.
