Free iPhone games deal pays off for IUGO

Daisy Mae has 125,000 more customers at her Alien Buffet.

IUGO is the latest company to benefit from a free iPhone games promotion, racking up 125,000 downloads of its Daisy Mae's Alien Buffet game in a single day earlier this month.

The game was offered for free as part of a deal with Aurora Feint's Free Game of the Day website on 8th May.

Alongside that, IUGO used Aurora Feint's OpenFeint platform to add social features to the game, making it the latest developer to sign up to the OpenFeint community.

"We've been impressed with OpenFeint's quick rise to dominance and substantial user base. Our engineers have also found OpenFeint to be a breeze to work with," says IUGO's director of business development Sarah Thomson.

Promotions like Free Game of the Day and rival FreeAppaDay have been generating big download numbers for games developers in recent months.

The challenge for these companies is how to make money out of these new audiences. Some are giving away older games in order to cross-promote new ones, while others are looking to in-app payments instead.
