That's 18m up in a month for the social location service.
The surge was revealed in a tweet from one of its developers, and suggests that Foursquare is approaching the tipping point at which minority interests go mainstream.
The service hit the million user mark two weeks ago.
Foursquare combines user-gen location information with a gameplay element that rewards frequent visits. It's competing in a busy space with Gowalla, Loopt, Rummble and others.
