Foursquare's big European adventure continues

Manchester, Dublin and a host of other cities for social location app.

Manchester has become the second UK city to be supported by social location app Foursquare, following London's rollout last month.

That means Mancunians will be able to join in the fun running around checking into bars, restaurants, clubs and other public venues, earning badges and competing against their friends.

In fact, 15 European cities have been added to the app, which has previously been almost exclusively focused on the US and Canada.

Dublin is on the list now, along with Paris, Madrid, Barcelona (stand by for a check-in fest at Mobile World Congress next year), Berlin, Munich, Prague, Geneva, Rome, Brussels, Athens, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Helsinki.

Although it first caused a stir on iPhone, Foursquare is also now available for Android handsets. We wonder if the company's new European focus will extend to making a Symbian version - not a platform that registered highly in Silicon Valley, but an important one on this side of the Atlantic.
