But it's with the full encouragement of the newspaper.
The Financial Times will soon be offering free FT.com subscriptions to business students who are using Foursquare, according to Business Insider.
It claims that the financial newspaper will reward check-ins from specific cafes near financial institutions and universities with codes for free subscriptions to the paywall site.
Expected to launch in the next few weeks, locations include Columbia and Harvard in the US, as well as the London School of Economics and London Business School in the UK.
"We’re always looking for new ways to engage with our audience and tap into a younger demographic and a new generation of FT readers and social media channels are central to this," says a spokesperson.
The partnership will presumably take advantage of Foursquare's new technology that stops people checking in to venues unless they're actually there.
