Foursquare grew 3,400 per cent in 2010

And it has 6m members. Clearly not killed off by Facebook Places then.

The location-based social networking service reported the growth in a blog post with an smart infographic you can see here.

It added: "Honestly, 2010 was just insane."

There were 381,576,305 check-ins last year worldwide, with the record for a single event being 30,525 at Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity in Washington D.C. in October.

There were also check-ins from North Korea and from space, from the International Space Station, on October 22nd.

Foursquare noted that 224 people named Wendy checked into Wendy's restaurants last year.
