New 'check-in' feature not going down too well
Foursquare boss Dennis Crowley has blasted rival Yelp for mimicking the LBS company's location check-in functionality in its latest update.
In fact, as TechCrunch reports Crowley goes as far as to admit that Foursquare's own solution is flawed and that as a result Yelp has copied the wrong thing in an effort to ape its rival.
It seems it's the similarities between the Foursquare and Yelp check-in UIs that has irked Crowley the most.
'Checking in' is becoming the standard phrase used in social location apps, including Foursquare, Gowalla, Rummble and MyTown.
However, Yelp doing it is quite a big deal. The app has 1.25 million users already, making it by far the largest iPhone app to offer check-ins. Last week, MyTown developer Booyah said its app has 450,000 registered users - "more than double Foursquare and Gowalla combined".
