Recurring operator billing by day, week or month.
Estonia-based Fortumo is one of the more aggressive players in the carrier billing space. Its services are targeted particularly at developers, and the firm has made a point of going after emerging markets – enabling payments in Kuwait, El Salvador, Nicaragua and other countries in the last few weeks.
It currently serves in more than 70 countries.
The system includes the following features:
* Optimised for key platforms like web, mobile web, HTML5, Android, iOS (via browser), tablet devices.
* Zero click for users after the initial activation.
* Connects to 250 mobile operators in 70 countries. It supports direct carrier billing where it's available and automatically falls back to Premium SMS where it's not.
"Subscription payments deepen customer loyalty and have shown to increase developer revenue by at least 30 per cent," said Rain Rannu, co-founder of Fortumo.
"Recurring mobile operator billing has a potential to become a significant revenue driver for digital content merchants over the next few years."
Fortumo has already started rolling out subscription services with a number of games and dating sites.
