Forrester details 'music release windows' for labels

Mobile music subscribers should get first dibs on new tracks, before download stores/shops

Forrester Research has outlined what it thinks will be the future of music distribution, namely three release windows across multiple platforms.

As Music Ally reports
, Forrester reckons music will eventually be released first for premium services (mobile/ISP bundle subscribers), followed by mainstream retail and finally ad supported channels.

The analyst says the advent of a windows-based release system in music would be akin to an 'MTV Moment' - i.e. completely game-changing.

It will be interesting to see if a) this is something that actually transpires, and b) if it does how the music industry will ensure the windows aren't broken, so to speak.

We might see a glimpse of the 'premium' music future at Apple's iTunes event tomorrow, where the company may well be detailing its Project Cocktail initiative.
