Auto giant now pushing to get its connected car platform in 9m vehicles by 2015.
Sync was launched in 2007, and lets drivers control phone connectivity, navigation, climate control and entertainment using voice commands. It even supports the use of hands-free use of apps after making available its SYNC API.
It was first included as a $395 option in its 2008 Ford Focus cars, and is now available on all Ford and Lincoln cars, except those targeted for commercial or fleet use.
To coincide with the new milestone, Ford confirmed it has added new abilities including hands-free voice navigation from Telenav. The Sync Destinations app will hit the BlackBerry and Android platforms before the end of Q1 2012.
Ford has also confirmed on-demand Sync access to National Public Radio programs. Users can download the NPR smartphone app and use with it Sync AppLink, which already works with Internet radio apps like Pandora, Slacker, iHeartRadio and Stitcher.
