Veteran UK firm taking its CD-ROM publishing nous to the iOS platform.
Way back at the dawn of civilisation (the 90s), a band of publishers momentarily did rather well from selling inexpensive CD-ROMs on reference subjects. They found willing outlets in unusual places like garage forecourts and garden centres.
And prominent among them was Focus Multimedia, based in Staffordshire UK.
Many of these firms got caught out by the move to online and then mobile, but Focus appears to have adapted rather well.
Last year, Focus launched a new brand for mobile apps called FDigital. Its first two iOS app releases, based on the 4m selling Driving Test Success range, have been downloaded over 600,000 times in the past 12 months.
Now, FDigital is prepping its first new game to launch simultaneously on iPhone, iPad and Android platforms.
The title is Squashies World, a physics-based puzzle game designed to celebrate the launch of a new brand of sweets, Squashies, from Swizzels-Matlow - the makers of Love Hearts and Refreshers.
A QR code on the back of the sweet packets drives the customer to download the app (which costs 69p when unlocked).
Focus worked with indie UK studio, The Game Creators, on Squashies World. It's the first of ten apps to be released across iOS and Android in 2012/13.
The three due for launch in Q4 2012 are:
* Love Hearts (casual game) - iOS, Android
* Draw Garfield (puzzle game) - iOS, Android
* Bubble & Squeak Bust Out (casual game) - iOS
