Flash for iPhone? There WILL be apps for that

Adobe reveals plans for App Store support in Flash Professional CS5 authoring tools, with South Park already on board.

Adobe has announced plans to help Flash developers create iPhone apps using its Flash Professional CS5 software.

That's right, Flash-based iPhone apps. Sort of. The apps are being developed in Flash, then presumably converted to run on the iPhone, which is famously still lacking in support for Adobe's platform.

Adobe says it will launch a public beta of Flash Professional CS5 later this year, and is inviting developers to sign up to take part.

However, several iPhone apps have already been built using a pre-release version of the software, including MTV Networks' South Park Avatar Creator, and several games from independent developers.

The move is good news for the many Flash web developers keen to take their content to iPhone, even if they'll have to wait a while longer to do it through the handset's Safari browser.
