Will fans pay $8.99 to discover 'hidden minutiae like eye colors' though?
Having recently released iPhone remakes of Final Fantasy I and II, games firm Square Enix has now brought the latest title from the franchise - Final Fantasy XIII - to iPhone.
Well, sort of.
The publisher has launched Final Fantasy XIII Larger-than-Life Gallery on the App Store. It's described as a digital photo album with artwork from the console game.
"Watch intricate design details come to life as you expand and explore gorgeous CG and character art, discovering hidden minutiae like eye colors, clothing materials, and the brilliant luster of accessories!" says its App Store blurb.
Which should be a treat for fans. However, the price of the app may be less so: it costs $8.99, which is nearly as expensive as a top-end iPhone game.

Square Enix's view is presumably that this is high-quality content that Final Fantasy fans will be happy to pay for, rather than simply promotional material for the console game.
Time - and sales on the App Store - will tell.
